Today, we shall be explaining Hotel Kawakyu, located in Wakayama Prefecture.
This hotel represents the pinnacle of art and architecture, encapsulating a world of opulent splendour.
Hotel Kawakyu is a unique, unparalleled castle of refined taste（数寄）, built with passion and romance, constructed by master craftsmen using carefully selected, high-value building materials gathered from around the world.
【Piggy’s Point】The exterior of this hotel evokes the splendour reminiscent of Europe’s Baroque era.
The Baroque period also saw the flourishing of architecture and art that expressed this overall splendour.
The exterior roof（瓦） features yellow tiles.
These yellow tiles are specially commissioned and are also used in the Forbidden City（紫禁城） in China.
The wall tiles are by the British company Ivestock.
Upon closer inspection, the patterns bear the hallmarks of Eastern design（卍崩し）.
This mural is a Byzantine mosaic discovered in Syria, believed to have been created around the 2nd century.
【Piggy’s Point】When one thinks of Byzantine mosaics, Christian teachings and portraits of figures come to mind for the most part, but I imagine Byzantine art depicting animals is rather rare.
The interior decoration of this room was undertaken by the Italian painter Giorgio Celiberti.
It is said to have been depicted with the themes of love, freedom, and peace.
